In 2008, local artists Don Jolly & Max McDermott were feeling low. Maxs arms were getting tired, holding up paintings on the side of the road all day. Dons strategy of burying his comics in deep holes wasnt working. Nobody was looking at the art! Both of them decided to do karate under this one waterfall and figure it out.
“Nobody can really see my painting strokes,” Max complained.
“I know the feeling!” Don lied.
“Maybe we should form an unbreakable brotherhood?” Max suggested.
“Yeah. I get it... Like a friendship for art. A pretty good art show.”
“An Incredible Art Show,” Max said, as he uppercutted the waterfall and figured out a cool move.
Since 2008, Don & Max have put on two Incredible Art Shows per year—one in Spring, one in Fall. Each show has new work from Don & Max in a variety of mediums, plus contributions from Austins most talented and eclectic visual artists. The Art Show is also proud to have hosted some of the biggest names in Austin music, including The Reivers, Radiola, The Fat Man & Team Fat, and many more. Every spring and fall, Don & Maxs unshakable creation stalks forth from its pocket dimension, ready to provide the city with a good time. Today, neither Don nor Max is very good at karate because life kinda got in the way.
